Aquaman 2 is Officially Happening!

According to Entertainment Weekly, Warner Brothers has officially green lit the sequel to the hugely successful Jason Momoa-starring Aquaman, helmed by James Wan. The studio has set a release date of December 16th, 2022, so we’ll have to wait a bit to see Jason back in action. In the meantime, there are a slew of other DC films to look forward to in between, including Shazam and Wonder Woman 2.

From EW:

“YEE-AHH!” A sequel to Aquaman is officially happening — but it’s going to be a long wait.

Warner Bros. announced Wednesday that a follow-up to the hit superhero film starring Jason Momoa will be released on Dec. 16, 2022.

The news follows Aquaman racking up $1.1 billon at the global box office since its December release making it the highest-grossing DCEU film. Domestically, Aquamanhas made $335 million, making it the second highest-grossing DCEU title in the United States behind 2017’s Wonder Woman.

There’s no word yet on whether James Wan will return as director, though it’s difficult to imagine the studio not making every attempt to re-sign Wan given the success of the first film. Deadline previously reportedthat Wan’s frequent collaborator David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will write the script.
