BIOGRAPHY (from the Montreal Comiccon website)
Jason Momoa is one of Hollywood’s most exciting new crop of leading men. He is known for countless roles, including the iconic DC Comics superhero Aquaman in the international blockbuster The Justice League (2017) and Khal Drogo in one of the most watched shows on television, HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Momoa has been acting and modelling since the late 90’s, and after having appeared on several TV series and film, it was in 2004 that he was cast in his first iconic role, Ronon Dex, in the popular science fiction series Stargate Atlantis. Once the series ended, Momoa followed that up with by taking on the title role in LionsGate/Millenium Films reboot of Conan the Barbarian (2011) and the doomed Dothraki warlord in Game of Thrones. In 2012, he starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in Bullet to the Head, which was shortly followed by Road to Paloma (2014), Momoa’s first film as director, writer, and producer.
Most recently, Momoa stars as Declan Harp in the Netflix action/adventure series Frontier, about a part-Irish, part-Cree outlaw who is campaigning to breach the Hudson’s Bay Company’s monopoly on the fur trade in Canada. The series was renewed for a third season.
Momoa made his first appearance as Aquaman/Arthur Curry, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), which starred Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in the titular roles. Though it was in the 2017 film Justice League that we get a bigger dose of Momoa’s take on the heir to the throne of Atlantis, in the ensemble film that included Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Affleck and Cavill reprising their roles as Batman and Superman respectively.
The future looks bright and busy for the Hawaiian-born actor. The action-thriller Braven (2018) just released, which Momoa produced under his Pride of Gypsies banner. He recently signed on to star as Rico Rodriguez, with Frontier co-creator Brad Peyton tapped to direct, in the film Just Cause, based on the popular series of video games from Square Enix. Later this year will see the release of Aquaman, as Momoa returns to the role of Arthur Curry, alongside an all-star cast with Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, and Temuera Morrison.
